Inna rabbakumu Allahu allathee khalaqa alssamawati wal-arda fee sittati ayyamin thumma istawa AAala alAAarshi

“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne, arranging the matter [of His creation]. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember?” (Yunus 10:3)

This verse situates the believer within a cosmos governed entirely by Allah. The sun, the moon, the alternation of night and day — Surah Yunus names these not as poetic imagery but as rational arguments for Tawhid.

Walaw yuAAajjilu Allahu lilnnasi alshsharra istiAAjalahum bilkhayri laqudiya ilayhim ajaluhum

“And if Allah was to hasten for the people the ill [they have earned] as they impatiently urge the hastening of good, their term would have been ended for them.” (Yunus 10:11)

إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَٱخْتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلْأَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلْأَنْعَٰمُ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زُخْرُفَهَا وَٱزَّيَّنَتْ وَظَنَّ أَهْلُهَآ أَنَّهُمْ قَٰدِرُونَ عَلَيْهَآ أَتَىٰهَآ أَمْرُنَا لَيْلًا أَوْ نَهَارًا فَجَعَلْنَٰهَا حَصِيدًا كَأَن لَّمْ تَغْنَ بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

“The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb – [those] from which men and livestock eat – until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought.” (Yunus 10:24)

one hundred times draws from the hadith in Tirmidhi in which the Prophet ﷺ stated that any Muslim who supplicates with this invocation will receive a response from Allah. (Tirmidhi 3505)

Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Sa`d narrated from his father, from Sa`d that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors. (Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.”

The number one hundred is a widely practiced traditional recommendation among scholars of dua, not a specific hadith stipulation — so the most important factor is sincerity and consistency, not the precise count. What matters is that this supplication be made with genuine acknowledgment of one’s own limitations and complete dependence on Allah.
