Realizing the great significance and the inspiring impact of Eid Al-Adha on your child’s character, you need some practical steps to prepare your child to make the best use of this opportunity to upgrade his character, and faith. Here are some ideas:

1- Tell Them the Stories of Ibrahim, Ismail, and Hajar:

Who doesn’t love stories?! Stories have the strongest effect, especially on the child’s mind, as it stimulates his limitless imagination!

Use that storytelling, exciting, special tone to let them live in those imagined scenes, so that they can react emotionally and mentally.

2- Use Flash Cards, and Coloring Drawings:

If your children are young, and like to learn by having fun, then flash cards, and coloring will be great for them! And also, they can be then a decoration for Eid Al-Adha in their rooms!

3- Ask Them What They Understand:

After telling them the stories, and even roleplaying some of its scenes, ask them what they understand from that all, to let them express their thoughts and feelings with their own words. Let them communicate!

4- Help them to Share, and Let Go:

Eid Al-Adha and its related, sacrifice-story encourage your kid to let go of something he really loves for the sake of Allah, by giving it away to others, and share the joy and delight of Eid Al-Adha!

5- Exalt and Praise Allah, with Your Child, for All Blessings:

Make the best use of the calls of takbir, with your child, in Eid Al-Adha to instill gratitude, trust, and submission to Allah, referring to the fact that Allah is the Owner of everything, yet He gives us somethings in life, to test our piety, benevolence, faith and devotion

How Parents Can Be Role Models For Their Kids in Eid?

Eid El-Adha brings the parents’ model into our consideration, by those heart-melting stories of Ibrahim, Ismail, and Hajar. Each story has really profound feelings, and hard challenges that evoke us to grow in devolution, trust, attachment and submission to Allah, The Almighty, and also teach us so crucial lessons:

1- Invoking Allah for Our Children:

We need, before all, to always invoke Allah for granting us righteous children, as they are a blessing from Him, as Prophet Ibrahim asked his Lord: [As-Saffat: 100]

Also, we need to keep invoking Allah for their good, in every situation in life, like when they are not with us, as Ibrahim did, when having to leave Ismail and Hajar in the desert land: [Ibrahim: 37].

Sure, we need to teach them to invoke Allah with us, to attach them to Allah, like when Ibrahim and Ismail supplicated to Allah, together: [Al-Baqarah: 127-129].

2- Obeying Allah Faithfully, Even When It Is Hard:

Sometimes, as parents we find it hard to not give food nor drink to our children for fasting, or waking them up, on cold days for salat fajr, thinking it is hard!

Just then, remember ‘how hard’ it was when Ibrahim was commanded to leave his son, as a baby, with his mother Hajar, alone, in a desertland! Yet, he obeyed. Also, Lady Hajar was faithful enough to submit, too, due to their unwavering faith and trust in Allah’s wisdom, [Ibrahim: 37].

3- Doing the Best for Our Children, Having Hope in Allah’s Grace:

As parents, our love for them urges us to exert our maximum efforts, even in the hardest situations, trusting that Allah will provide us with a wayout!

We are taught that by the memorable, diligent try of Hajar, the mother of Ismail, when left in the desertland, with her baby crying. She went back and forth 7 times between Safa and Marwa, searching for provision, refusing to stay just helpless. So, Allah rewarded her diligence with Zamzam water, as a reward, and a blessing for her, her son, and all Muslims then, till the Judgement Day!

4- Engaging Our Children with Doing Good Acts:

As parents, it is crucial to engage our children with the good acts, not letting them get deviated away from the right path, but rather sharing with us the guidance and reward of the good acts in life and the hereafter, exactly as Ibrahim and Ismail raised the House’s foundations together! [Al-Baqarah: 127].

5- Asking for Our Children’s Opinion:

Yes, we are their parents wanting the best for them; yet, we need to always share a friendly conversation with our children; that brings us closer to each other, and lets us know what is going on in their minds. Notice, how Ibrahim used to talk with his son, Ismael, even in the hardest situation ever! [ِAs-Safat: 102].

Conclusion:

In essence, Eid Al-Adha presents a golden opportunity for parents to instill deep-rooted faith in their children by sharing these heart-opening Du’as and recounting the inspiring stories of sacrifice and devotion from the lives of Prophets Ibrahim, Ismail, and Lady Hajar.

These supplications, coupled with the vibrant traditions of Eid, serve as powerful tools to connect young hearts and minds to the core Islamic values of submission, gratitude, and unwavering trust in Allah.

By actively engaging children with these Du’as, discussing the profound lessons from the sacred stories, and consciously embodying these principles, parents can transform Eid Al-Adha into a truly memorable and spiritually enriching experience.

It is through such dedicated efforts that we can nurture a generation that not only understands the significance of their faith but also cherishes the practice of Du’a and the inspiring legacy of the prophets.
