- Approximately 6,000
The exact number of Ayas in the Quran is a subject of scholarly debate, the difference in the counting of the Quranic verses falls under the category of diversity differences. This type of difference has no impact on the essence of the Quran; it does not result in any increase or decrease in the Quran.
According to Al-Dani, there is a consensus among scholars that the Quran consists of 6,000 verses. However, there is disagreement regarding the additional verses beyond this number. Some scholars say there are 6,204 verses, while others suggest 6,214, 6,219, 6,225, or 6,236 verses.
This variation arises due to differences in counting some of the verse endings (fawasil). Despite these differences in counting, Muslims universally agree on the wording of the Quran and that nothing can be added or removed from it. The discrepancies are minor and pertain only to the method of counting the verses.
