How To Complete Reciting The Quran In Ramadan?

Complete Reciting The Quran In Ramadan

To complete the Quran in Ramadan, divide its 604 pages into manageable daily targets, such as reading 20 pages per day or one Juz. Break this into smaller sessions, like reciting 4 pages before or after each Salah.

Attending Taraweeh prayers also helps, as Imams often cover the entire Quran. For flexibility, consider using digital Mushafs if needed. The key is creating a realistic schedule, staying consistent, and focusing on both recitation and understanding.

The holy month of Ramadan has a special place in the heart of every Muslim. It is the month when every Muslim is trying to do their best in every Ibadah – Worship to prove and consider their devotion to Allah.

Let discuss them together:

Is it Fardh (Obligatory) to Complete the Qur’an in Ramadan? Why So, Then?

Nothing in Islam states that it is fardh to complete recitation of the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan. However, it is highly recommended for the Muslim to seize that special, yearly-chance for every Muslim because of:

1. Ramadan’s Blessings, and Multiplied Hasanat:

Hasanat (good deeds) for the acts of worship are abundantly multiplied in Ramadan, and it is more promising to do more good acts, including reciting the Holy Qur’an, in this blessed month of goodness, :

The Messenger of Allah said: “There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it, the gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it, Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.”‘

2. A Prophetic Recommendation:

Actually, the Companions were so keen on asking the Prophet (PBUH) attentively to make sure about the more preferable, standard-way to adhere to when performing the acts of worship; Abd Allah Ibn ‘Amr narrated:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: “Keep fast for three days of month, and finish the recitation of the Qur’an in one month.” (Sahih).

So, although it is not a fardh to finish reciting the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan, yet it is highly preferable, and rewarding.

How to Complete the Qur’an-Recitation in Ramadan?

Setting clear intentions to complete the Quran is essential, as Allah rewards even the pure intention of seeking His blessings. To stay on track, create a personalized reading schedule that fits your daily routine. Dividing the Quran’s 604 pages across 30 days—about 20 pages per day—makes it achievable. Splitting readings before or after Salah or joining Taraweeh prayers can further ease your journey.

We highly recommend that you start by creating a Quran reading schedule that is customized based on your own daily life. Having a Quran reading schedule will allow you to stay focused and maintain your progress.

Ramadan It’s the time when we believe the doors of heaven swing wide open, and the doors of hell are closely shut. Even the devils are put on lockdown. So this is the perfect time for every Muslim to establish their faith and to get closer to Allah, No matter how much you have sinned in the past, This is the perfect time to start over, No devils around to talk you out of it.

Setting your intention to finish reading the Quran in Ramadan is super important. Allah is rewarding you even for your intentions no matter what the result is, It is important to clear your intention purely for Allah that your actions are devoted to earning Allah’s blessings.

Since it is the goal for every Muslim to finish reading the Quran in Ramadan, Let me give you practical tips and tricks in order to achieve your goal.

The status differs from one person to another, when it comes to the effective ways to finish reciting the Qur’an in Ramadan. Yet, here are some useful tips to follow:

1. Set Your Attention for Ramadan:

In Islam, the first and foremost step to take, before performing any act of worship, is to set your intention purely for Allah, His mercy, and His pleasure. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘O people! The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended…”

2. Invoke Allah for Help:

With a sincere heart, invoke Allah for help, and He, The Near, will respond to your call, and help you, Insha’Allah, to worship Him as He pleases:

وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ …” (البقرة: 186)

[When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me…] [Al-Baqarah: 186].

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate: “O Allah, help me to remember You, to give You thanks, and to perform Your worship in the best manner.”

3. Get Ready with a Plan:

Before Ramadan, you need to get ready with a plan, that will keep you focused, and on the track, without getting distracted, or overwhelmed- at the end of this article, we already provide you with the ‘30-days plan’ to finish reciting the Qur’an in Ramadan, so keep reading on!

4. Have a Look at Tafsir:

Don’t rush! Never let your urge to finish reciting the Qur’an in Ramadan stop you from looking for the interpretation of the ayahs! You need to grasp the teachings and meanings of what you are reciting, for sure. Mainly, the Qur’an was revealed to connect to your mind, heart, and soul:

كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ ٢٩

[˹This is˺ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful.] [ Sadd: 29].

5. Rest Your Hearing with The Qur’an:

The times when you are not reciting the Qur’an can be spent blissfully listening to the sheikhs’ beautiful recitations of the Qur’an, like that of the Imam of Salat At-Tarweeh in the Masjid. Definitely that helps you to get more familiar and attached to the Qur’an, and even open to its associated blessings and mercy:

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ٢٠٤

[When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent, so you may be shown mercy.] [Al-‘Araf: 204].

6. Keep Up even when broke:

Maybe, you feel down, tired, bored, or unable to recite the Qur’an portion dedicated for a day, or at any time of the month. At that point, remind yourself with Allah’s great reward for those engaging with His Book, Qur’an, and even your struggle is rewarded:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honorable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

The ’30-Days Plan’ of Completing the Qur’an in Ramadan:

Doing the math, Ramadan is a month of 29, or 30 days, and there are 30 juzu’ in the Qur’an. So, we can say that we need to recite a juzu’ every day.

Juzu’ is nearly 20 pages, which should be recited a day: so, you have two ways:

  1. Reciting Through the Day:
  1. You can read, for example, 10 pages once waking up, and the other 10 pages before going to bed.
  2. You can read the 20 pages, all at once, at a certain time you dedicate daily to the Qur’an-recitation.
  3. Reciting Before and After the Five Salats:

Another successful way that let you get blessed with the Qur’an recitation more regularly is that way according to the five daily salats: Fajr, Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, Ishaa’. At that case:

  1. You can read 4 pages after each salat of the five ones: 4 pages x 5 salats = 20 pages
    (a Juzu’ per day.)
  2. You can read 2 pages before the salat, and 2 pages after: 4 pages x 5 salats= 20 pages
    ( a Juzu’ per day.)

Importance of the Qur’an in Ramann:

You can repeatedly hear: “Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an”. In fact, both are meaningfully connected to each other, because of:

1. Qur’an Being Revealed in Ramadan:

Qur’an, the Holy Book of Allah, was descended in the month of the Ramadan:

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْفُرْقَانِ ۚ… (البقرة: 185)

[Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority…] (Al-Baraqah: 185).

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was the most generous of the men; and he was the most generous during the month of Ramadan when Jibril visited him every night and recited the Qur’an to him…” (Bukhari and Muslim).

2. Qur’an Being Recited All Along Ramadan-Day:

In addition, in Ramadan, besides contemplating on the Qur’an, we perform more nawafel (voluntary prayers), like Taraweeh, night-salat, and so on, and in each salat, we recite the Qur’anic ayahs.

So, whether reciting the Qur’an during salat, or not, Qur’an is always recited throughout the Ramadan-day; for sure, that has a great reward, which The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) assured us:

Whosoever performs (optional Taraweeh) salat at night during the month of Ramadan, with Faith and in the hope of receiving Allah’s reward, will have his past sins forgiven.” (Muslim)

Importance of Reading And Reciting Quran in Ramadan?

The secrecy of Ramadan comes from that is the month in which the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammed ( Peace be upon him) and the whole of humanity was blessed by the guidance of the Quran.

“Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Guidance for humanity, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion. “

[Surah al-Baqarah- 185]

Many Muslims in Ramadan are setting their goals to complete reading the Quran during Ramadan but that can be difficult sometimes without the right guidance.

Rewards for Reading the Quran in Ramadan

Everything the Muslims are doing in Ramdan to get closer to Allah is very rewarding. But when it comes to Reading the Quran, It is already rewarding all the time but especially in Ramadan of course.

And of course, Muslims are doing their best to seize such an opportunity in Ramadan to seek Allah’s pleasure. Let’s go through some of the main rewards for completing the Quran in Ramadan.

1. Endless rewarding good deeds

Prophet Mohammed ( Peace be Upon him ) Said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter, but rather ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Lam’ is a letter, and ‘Mim’ is a letter.”

Each and every letter you are reading is the holy Quran you are being rewarded for it endlessly. Allah promises to multiply all good deeds up to 10 times, And in Ramadan, It is a remarkable good deed to read the Quran hoping for Allah’s blessings.

2. The Quran will intercede for its companions

The holy Quran is the best companion for every Muslim, It is mentioned many times in the Quran and Sunnah that the Quran will intercede for its companion, Its intercedence can not be compared with the intercedence of a Prophet or a king.

Allah’s messenger said, “Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept my intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted.”

The intercedence of the Quran can be all that we need in The day of truth.

3. The Acceptance of Dua’a

Scholars believe that anyone who completes a full recitation of the Quran has a special opportunity for their prayers to be accepted.

How to Prepare to recite the Quran?

There are certain teachings that must be followed before starting to recite the Quran these include:

  • In order to be allowed to touch the Mushaf you have to be in a state of Wudhu ( ablution )
  • Dress in something proper and modest, This is out of respect to the Quran.
  • Start your recitation with the Ta’awwudz and by saying the Basmalah.

  • For women in their period who want to read the Quran but can not be in a state of Wudhu, You can read the Quran on your phone or any virtual Mushaf so you will not be late in your recitation progress. But it is prohibited to touch the Mushaf without performing Tahara.

This is why the best time to recite the Quran is after Salah, That’s when you are in a state of Wudhu and dressed properly, The Most important thing is that you are in the right state of mind to comprehend the Quran and to focus on its meenings.

Also, your reading pace shouldn’t be so fast that you are not able to focus on the glorious words in your hands. Your main focus should not be to finish a certain amount of pages, but to understand deeply each page you are reading.

To complete reciting the Quran in Ramadan you need to finish at least one Juz’ per day. And of course that can be difficult to complete in one session.

You can break it down into reading a smaller amount of pages in the times of Salah ( Praying )

Here are two ways to do that:

  • Recite 4 pages after or before each Salah
  • Recite 2 pages before Salah and 2 pages after Salah

Which will add up to 5×4 = 20 pages = 1 Juz per day

How attending the Taraweeh Pryer will help with the Khatm Al Quran?

This is one of the best ways to finish listening to the whole Quran in Ramadan. Muslims are rewarded for listening to the Quran in Salah as much as they are rewarded for reciting on their own.

But to gain full rewards in this holy month, make sure to recite on your own and also attend the Taraweeh every night. This is a great way to spend Ramadan surrounded by the graces of the Quran.

Al-Imam’s way to finish reciting the Quran in Ramadan

This is another effective way you can try to complete reciting the Quran during Ramadan, It is to do the same as the Imam in most Mosques.

Usually, Imams recite one and a half Juz’ for the first 6 Taraweeh prayers.

For the next 21 Taraweeh, they recite 1 Juz each night. So, in total 1.5 X 6 + 21 = 30 Juz. This method takes 27 days to finish the Quran. Then there is a good chance that you will witness “Laylatu Al-Qadr” when you have successfully completed reciting the Quran.
