Can We Listen to the Quran During Periods?

Reading the Quran on period

Yes, women can listen to the Quran during their menstrual period. Islam does not prohibit women from hearing the recitation of the Quran while menstruating.

Although women in this state should avoid touching the physical mushaf (Quran), there is no restriction on listening to the Quran. This allows women to stay spiritually connected and benefit from the guidance of the Quran even during their periods.

A clear example is the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
“During my menses, I used to lie down beside the Prophet (peace be upon him) and he would recite the Quran while his head was in my lap.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This hadith confirms that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not see menstruation as a barrier to hearing the Quran.

In summary: Yes, women can listen to the Quran during menstruation. It’s a beautiful way to stay connected to Allah’s words, reflect on their meanings, and find peace and guidance.
